HISTORY
In autumn 2018, Traute Hensch from Freiburg discovered the Austrian initiative Grandmas Against the Right . She discussed it with Gerdi Liebner, who also found the initiative worth imitating.
With a small article in the Badische Zeitung, the two founders wanted to find other grandmas who wanted to follow the same path. They hoped that 10 to 15 grandmas would answer the call. It was a big surprise when around 60 grandmas came together in the Freiburg restaurant Oma's Küche on October 10, 2018. It was clear: no meeting could be held in the narrow space. So a few weeks later the grandmas met on a larger scale.
The initial 60 grandmas grew to 140 five months later. 140 seasoned older women who are committed to fighting right-wing ideas with full enthusiasm.
They meet in plenary about once a month to discuss activities and current events.
The association Omas gegen Rechts – Freiburg neV was founded on April 4, 2019.
